Microtek Scanners

i have a good deal on a Scanmaker 4800 usb, with a 35mm slide and film adapter. I would like to know if microtek are good quality abd whetther i dhould go for it. Also wat is the interpolated resolution?

Cant remember the interpolated resolution but I owned a scanmaker X6
USB and it did an awesome job. Go for it.

I used to work for a scanner company other than Microtek, and we considered them to be one of the higher-quality competitors in the home consumer/small office market.

The ScanMaker's optical resolution is 2400x1200 and its maximum interpolated resolution is 9600x9600. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the scanner's interpolated resolution, though. If you want to interpolate something, you'd probably be better off doing it in Photoshop than the scanner driver.

If you're going to be scanning a lot of small media like slides and negatives, you may want to look into either a higher-resolution flatbed or a dedicated slide scanner. Slide scanners generally start around 2700x2700 dpi so that you can pick up sufficient detail from 35mm media to make a quality full-size print. You may find that 2400x1200 may not be a high enough optical resolution if you plan on making prints. For display on a monitor, though, it would probably be sufficient.
