Windows 9x and high speed CPUs (2.5ghz+)

Hey I was wondering, it's possible to run a 2.5ghz or 3.06ghz p4 with windows 98SE right? I know it can be done on ME, and since ME sucks very hard, I imagine there wouldn't be that much of a difference. Could I get a few replies from people telling me it's possible? thank you.

Sure 98se will work on those CPU's, like an OS on CRACK!

More like an OS on meth!

Sure it'll work. It will even be able to crash faster.

What they mean is that you will experience faster crashes, etc. There is no problem with running that CPU under 98. Windows 98SE yields better performance for games...guess XP isn't so great afterall. How dare all of you who bash the almighty 98SE.

Yup it crashes nice and fast. I would say just get win 2k or winxp home and you will be fine. Outside of them you will not feel the true speed of a 3ghz cpu

It works fine. My friend has a 2.7ghz proc, and he ran 98se on that for a while. IMO though, I'd go with XP, 'cause there really is a big difference performance-wise. 98se just doesn't handle the newer hardware as well (performance/stability). (that's just my opinion though, take it for what it's worth)

just as a side note...I do not believe that the HT aspect of a P4 3.06 will function properly in 98SE.

    Thumbs up

Running Windows 98SE with 2.4b and it is very stable. When it does crash - I haven't noticed that it does it faster than other slower machines. As far as HT - you have to go with something higher than 98 to be able to use the HT capability.

thanks guys, my friend now sees the error in his ways. I would have proved it myself, but I don't have enough $$$ to prove my point by buying a 3.06ghz cpu. Peace.
