    8792 2001 3dMarks with 9700 Pro + 2100XP?!

    Hey everyone,

I've run 3DMark2001 several times now - the first time I ran it was right after I installed it, and I got something over 12,000, nearing 13,000 (see my rig in sig). Now when I run it, though, I got 8792 (and other tests hover inside the 8xxx range! What the hell went wrong?! I remember tweaking some minor settings in the Advanced display properties, but what could possibly account for a 4000 (50%!) point drop?

    Help!

    Thanks,
    Mike

Make sure both Anisotropic Filtering and Anti Aliasing are set to Application Preference, other than that I have no idea what could have caused such a huge drop.

Hmmm, a 50% drop would be about 6,500, but I got what you meant. Turn all of the details to "highest peformance" or whatever denotes the fastest. Try and make 3DMark look as ugly as possible without going into software mode. Turn off AA, Aniso, Trueform, etc. The best thing to do would be getting Rage3DTweak. They have a profile for 3DMark01 in there and that gave me my score of 9034.

Well ... something like that happened with me once. I screwed around with something in Rivatuner and it ended up severly limiting my fill rates (which in turn, kept my 3dm01 score around 6000'ish). All I did was reset to the driver defaults and all was well.

    Maybe reinstall your drivers?

    Eureka! All better. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6380084

I'm not sure what fixed it (I had tried Rage3DTweak before, so I dont think that was it). I think it may have been my AGP Aperature size (in BIOS). Had no idea it made that much of a difference .

    Thanks, it's all good now!

Im not sure it is the pature size, if i understand the apiture correctly its for use when your video card uses all of its memory and still needs more, so it grabs the system ram. I tend not to think 3dmark is going to use all 128mb of your card.

As for you Mike, I can only imagine what the other guys have said, that AA or AF is enabled, and also vsynch.

    Good luck

Yep, that is pretty bad for your rig.

I get those scores with my rig.
