    Hub Question which to use?

Ok we bought a netgear DS108, what we want to do is pull four(4) ip's from the cable modem each of which are payed for and on the cable modem. We've done so with three but seeing as I built a new comp we need a bigger hub now. Enter Netgear DS108, will this work to share a cable modem connection between all comps making each comp pull a unique ip addy?

this is the DS108, I dont see anywhere it mention's sharing cable connection or anything like that its also listed under "dual speed hubs"

Would this hub work? the EN108

It says ethernet hub where the DS108 doesn't and it doesn't seem to want to work properly.

Get one of these if you don't need to worry about expanding your network

If you do need to expand your network from more than 4 then get one of these

    http://www.netgear.com.au/products/p...odID=132&view=

    or these

    http://www.netgear.com.au/products/p...rodID=52&view=

or these if you need more than 16 ports

Don't worry about the "suggested price". Just go to Newegg

I am quite partial to netgear networking components. They have ALWAYS had spectacular milage for me.

One piece of advice: Instead of a hub, get a switch. Nowadays, the difference in price is pretty marginal, but the difference in performance can be really significant.

A switch is basically a hub with sort of a traffic cop built in. It looks at data passing through and directs it to only the intended recipient, leaving all the other ports available to "talk amongst themselves". A hub takes incoming data and rebroadcasts it to every single port, so every computer connected to the hub has to compete with every other computer for time to communicate on the network.
