    New computer in!

I got my new computer in, and got it up and working.

    Here are the specs:
    2.8C P4
    Abit IC7-G
    Zalman CNPS7000AlCu
    Kingston HyperX PC3500 512mb x2
    Fortron 400watt PSU
    Radeon 9700Pro AIW
    40gig Seagate 7200.7
    120gig Seagate 7200.7 SATA x2 on Raid0
    Liteon DVD-ROM
    Liteon 52x CD Burner
    m-audio revolution
    Dell 1800FP
4 Panaflo L1A fans (not all connected right now)
    Logitech Cordless MX Duo

    I have a few questions/comments about it:
    1. In the BIOS my memory is coming up at CAS2.5 and much slower timings than I think it should be. I can manually set it, but I dont know what are safe timings to use with those. right now I'm only running it at 200mhz, but I will probably up it later. What timings should I use now, and what should I use when I up the FSB.

    2. The computer is pretty loud, which surprises me because I did a good amt of research to get all quiet componets. I'm pretty sure the culprit is the Furtron PSU. My panaflos seem to output more air than the PSU fan. Can I safely put a panaflo in my psu. What does this involve doing? I'm pretty sure this should be do able, bc the silenX psu is just a fortron w/ a really low cfm fan in it.

    3. The CPU temp is 42 idle, 52 at around full load, and system is 32. Keep in mind I dont have the side panel fan on yet, but I think my CPU temps are still pretty high. I'm going to try reappliing ceramique in a few days. Any good sites on how to apply it. I used a credit card, but I think I screwed it up a little.

    4. I bought a Zalman NB heatsink to replace the Abit one, and planning on cutting it to use the retention ring. How do i remove the hsf already on the NB.

    5. I have a Blue and Ultraviolet CC. Any suggestions of where to put them. I'm thinking of putting the blue one sideways near the back of the case, and the UV near the top of the case between the psu and drive cage and the side panel.

Sorry for such a long post and asking so many questions.
    Thanks in advance!

    anyone?

I guess I should have posted these as seperate threads, as they arent really related.

I really want to know about the memory timings though, cause I want to set that before I run benchmarks, but I'm getting anxious to see what this baby can do. O well, I guess Ill just try some.

I'll try to be a little more helpful.

The only one I can help you with is the hyperx question:

That is pretty good ram, so I would try 2-2-2-5 or if it isn't stable at those timings, it should at least do 2-3-3-7. If you are going to overclock, relax the timings so you can get your memory speed as high as possible.

edit: I can help with the power supply question too:

Changing fans is fine, especially if they push more air than the originals. All you have to do is cut the wires that power the old ones and patch in the new ones. Wire strippers and electrical tape is all you need.

and as for your processor heat problems, check the instructions here

    Thanks!

Those are actually the instructions I used to apply ceramique, but I still managed to screw it up. I'll just get someone to help me do it.

Also, whats timings reccomended when I do overclok? 2-3-3-7?

The lowest it will do with stability. Usually the looser the timings, the higher it will o/c, so you have to decide which is more important to you, latency, or mhz.

I got it running with 2-3-3-7. 2-2-2-5 causes windows to constantly restart.

The IC7/IC7-G's are nortorious for displaying a temp that's about +10^C higher than it actually is. Your temps should be fine as long as you have adequite cooling.

    BTW, nice rig
