    Unhappy I need to buy from a Teir 1 OEM

    I'm thinking Dell, the other brands I have to choose from are HP/Compaq and IBM. Anyone know of a good reason not to buy from any of those companies ? and before you ask why I don't just build them myself, I'm ordering 60 odd boxes .

    Dell would be my choice of those three. They're on top right now for a reason, and from what I hear it's support. Although sometimes it can be advantageous to go with a local smaller company with a good reputation, because of the TLC.

    Compaq...retarded
    IBM...overpriced and dumb
    Dell...good

    Really, Dell is the only logical solution. They are fast, cheap and come with discounts in some cases.

    Hey Fats, get all of them involved. It’s a cut throat market out there, and they will try to out do each other. Prices are fairly bottomed out, but services are still being football’ed.

    The business desktops and service from most of the major manufacturers is pretty good. Dell and HP/Compaq would be my first choices based on experience. (Personally, I tend to avoid IBM desktop systems.)

    Just be sure that you're looking at business models and not consumer models. If you're looking at Dell systems, go with Optiplex instead instead of Dimension. If you're looking at HP/Compaq, look at the "HP Desktop" series instead of the Pavilion or Presario line. By going with business models, you'll generally have lower failure rates, more component consistency from box to box, and much better support.

    Thermo has a good point about getting quotes on systems from multiple companies, although they won't exactly be jockeying for your business when you're ordering "only" 60+ systems. But make sure that you include warranty and support costs in those quotes. And get quotes on non-Dell systems from multiple places, as one reseller or another might be able to give you better pricing. (That obviously doesn't apply to Dell since they sell direct. HP/Compaq may also sell direct, but they tend not to undercut their resellers.)
