    Speaker wire for z680s. Change em?

    Hey guys, should I change my speaker wires? I think they use 16 or 18 gauge, I was thinking of getting some better wires for better sound. Would it make any difference? Let me know guys!

    You "may" notice a difference if you change the two front speaker wires and the center channel. I wouldn't worry about changing the two rears ones because I don't think it would be noticeable. I'm currently using noname 14 gauge on my two front Z560 speakers with banana plugs. I "think" I notice a difference.

    16 gauge is already a pretty damned good size speaker wire to begin with. You only start to get a degredation of quality when you have very long lenghths of speaker cable. If you were using 24 gauge or something like that (which is what my dad used to hook up my stereo system) then you should definitely move up to the thicker stuff. But an increase from 16 to 14AWG is negligable.

    By the way, I'm using 18 gauge in my stereo system right now and it sounds great. And I'm a musician so sound is important to me.

    are you refering to the wire that came STOCK with the 680s??? in that case I would be dead surprised if it was anything past 20 guage.

    Readers of Stereo Review, many years ago, got a big kick out of some testing they did with speakers wires! An electrical engineer on their staff wanted to find out which of the "vanity" brand speaker wires were best! Of course, he had sat down with his formula's and slide rule (hehe) and already figured out what would be the best (I'll keep that a secret for now). It did turn out that the larger gauge wires did in fact work better than the smaller ones amoungst the "vanity" wires but NONE beat his predetermined best -- 12ga lamp cord!!!!

    yes I think the logitech wires are 18 gauge, at least mine are, but I have a Z560.

    Just look at the cable it's usually printed right on there. Like AWG 18x2 or something to that effect.
