Need suggestions on a good L-Shaped computer desk
Hello everyone -
I really need to get a new desk for my home office. In order to save more space, I was looking into getting a good L-shaped desk - preferably, a design where you work "into" the corner (not on one of the sides).
I've found a few different colors of this O'Sullivan desk, which is kinda what I had in mind.
However, this is the only desk I've found that I seem to like (style, price and functionality). I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions on a desk that is similar in style/design, or offers similar functionality. Price range is ~$500 tops.
Thanks for any advice!

I've had this desk for about 2 years and have been happy with it. Similar to the one you linked, but it has a hutch. http://www.officedepot.com/ddMain.do..._816_FM_170731

I have THIS one. I love the fact that the cpu is elevated and right in front of you under the monitor. You don't have to crawl under your desk to swap cd's. Its cheap too.

Why don't you just measure the space you have, then go to the store and look at the desks in person. Then you can try them out and see how you like each one.

Uhh...I did do that . I'm looking for more options and opinions of desks that I may have not seen thus far.

The desk you have interested me. It turns out that OfficeMax has the same desk I linked to above, but with the digital dock as well. Very strange that nobody else seems to carry this "modified" version of the desk. Same price too. However, they only have it in the cherry finish, and while I like it, I like the snow maple finish a bit better (for the room it's going into at least).
Thanks guys!

NullPointerException
I've bought a lot of O'Sullivan furniture in my lifetime. And while its cost is nice, its durability leaves something to be desired. Without moving, an every-day piece like a desk will last maybe 5 years. Add in moving around a bit - and you cut that in half (wear and tear taking it apart).
So it depends, if you're not married and a permanent house, O'Sullivan is great stuff. If you're at a point you're looking for something permanent - look at real furniture stores and think about spending 2-5 times as much.

We'll see, but I'm not sure what I can do in day to day use that will destroy this thing in 5 years. Ceratinly moving a lot could be a problem. My dad has a desk with the same type of fasteners to put it together and its still like new after 15 years.
Clearly though you get what you pay for - a desk that costs 3 times as much you could stack elephants on top of.

It's a combination of the fasteners and the particle board stuff they use. If the laminate cover gives way for any reason, it's just a matter of time before the fastener rips out. I've had a computer desk where the keyboard try lasted a whole 2 months, one where the main tabletop gave way after a few years, and a bookshelf that had a shelf go for no good reason.
All failed the same way - at a joint where the laminate cracked and the particle board ended up splintering apart. If you spend the $ to move up, you get away from the do-it-yourself fasteners and also move to proper wood.
Edit: note that I'm not really complaining - I feel I got my money's worth out of 95% of the O'Sullivan stuff I've bought. At this point, though, I'm not in a position to buy any more of it until I send the kids off to college.
