Besides, I said 60 and 150. Not 100 and 150 . The difference between 100/150 is negligible, but 60/150 is a huge difference atleast IMO.

TBird, the reason your games seem alright at 30FPS could be a few factors. A)They might be slower paced games, slower paced games seem to require fewer FPS. B)The fact that you are locking your FPS at such a low rate, and the fact it never drops below 30 is a big factor. I'll bet if your FPS wasn't capped at 30, and it fluctuated between 20-40 (an average of 30) you wouldn't say 30FPS was alright

It all really depends on the game, and the pace of the game though. 30FPs in something like Morrowind would be fine, where 30FPS in Quake3 would be terrible (and that doesnt take into consideration the physics changes that occur with the Q3 engine at certain FPS).

It's astonishing, this topic has been brought up so many times and there are still people that have no clue.

Set your monitor's refresh rate to 30 (i don't even know if that is possible) and then try 60, then try 85. After doing that, look me in the eyes and tell me with a straight face that you can't see more than 30fps (or even 60fps! I pity u if that's what you have your refresh rate set at!).

Terry, Col, and Tbird have been around here long enough that they should've learned this. Col, if you don't think you can see over 60 do the exercise I suggested . Might want to have some ibuprofen handy!

actually if you cover one eye, your more likely to notice a change in framerate..

keep in mind that the fps rating in a game is only an avg.

an avg 30fps can really stink 'cause you know its definitly dipping below 30 at some point and no less than half of the time...
that will likely be the "visible" part that most will notice.

That was exactly the point I was going to make. LOL! Everyone puts forward the 30FPS, because that is the speed that video runs at, I believe movies run at 24FPS, old movies run around 15FPS. The reason film looks smooth at those rates is because of the "motion blur" effect. The blur smooths the transition between frames. How fast would a white and black frame have to be exchanged to be preceived as gray? At 30 FPS you would get the strobe effect, at 60 it would look gray, but the image would seem bumpy. Once you got around 85 or so, you would start to see a stable image. This is a generalization, but should help people better understand what's going on.
