    Augidy2 Platinum EX needed?

Hey.. if I were to buy the creative labs speakers, model 650, er.. the expensive ($360.00) 6.1 setup.. would I have to have the SB Audigy2 Platinum EX? Or can the regular Platinum provide 6.1? For that matter, can the standard Audigy2 provide 6.1?

I don't have a 5.25" bay available, so I need an external solution if it's anything more than just the PCI card. Seems like I'd have to get the Audigy2 Platinum EX ($250 or so), but if I can get away with saving some cash ($50 - $150 less), then I will.

    Thanks!

The Audigy 2 OEM will process 6.1 just fine. It'll work perfectly with the Megaworks 650THX speakers. Only get the Platinum EX if you NEED that 5.25 connector bay.

Isnt the EX the model that runs off a special connector on the back of the sound card? I dont think it comes with the 5.25 Live bay... I think that is just the Platinum model...

I thought the EX had an external head unit?

You're right, the Platinum EX does come with the external headunit, not the 5.25 bay. I'd save the money and get the A2 oem, if you don't need the headunit. It' MUCH cheaper.

That's pretty sweet, because as nice as the Audigy2 Platinum EX is over $200 for a sound card and then another $350 for speakers is a little steep for my budget. I just wanted to be sure before actually placing an order.

I'm going to just buy the Audigy2 oem, probably even today since I'm pretty sure they're something like $80 - $100. I'll have to live with my Klipsch 4.1's for a while yet, but that's not that big of a deal =)

As far as needed extra connectors, all I want is something to plug headphones into if I choose to use them, something that will allow me to listen to DvDs and play games, I don't do any sound editing or mixing or anything of that nature.

    Thanks,

    Vern

Glad to help. If your speakers don't already have a headphone jack, you can use this because the A2 doesn't have a dedicated headphone jack. (Uses speaker jack)

I can't believe you said that! Bah I wish I "would just have to live with my 4.1's for the moment". Oh well, I'm still living with my 5200's, and I know the speakers are a little different but the feeling is the same.

    I can't wait to get the Ultra's
