System Final for Client, What do You Think?

    Athlon XP 1800+ Retail
    Shuttle MN31N nForce2 (w/GFX, LAN, & Sound)
    2x128MB PC2100 Kingston
    56K V.92 PCI Zonet Modem
    52x32x52x LiteOn CDRW
    1.44MB Mitsumi Floppy
    80GB WD 8MB 7200RPM ATA/100 HDD
    ATX FoxConn Case w/350W PSU
    MS MM Keyboard w/Optical Mouse
    Samsung 17" SyncMaster 753DFT-T Monitor
    Lexmark Z605 Printer
    Altec Lansing 2.1 Speakers
All for $612.99 after shipping from Newegg

I posted my rough draft sometime back, but after some dealing and talking with the client, and them buying WinXP Home from Bestbuy, this is what I've come up with. Prolly gonna order Monday evening, what do ya think? Oh and it'd be more, but I have one of those sticks of Kingston 128MB PC2100 already so I'll be using that. They will be just using it for Internet, Music, Home Accounting, and E-Mail

Looks like it will definately get the job done and still leave them with room to upgrade in the future.

I know you said you already had a stick of 128 but do you think it would be cheaper to give them a stick of 256 instead? I guess RAM a smooth running rig isn't that important, since we all know that XP runs better with 512 but if you have a stick of 128, and they are cheap to buy, then why not? I guess they can always add another 256mb if they want.

    Looks nice

That's not fast enough build them something like I have, they're gonna need all the power they can get to do stuff like that!

from what I got the system will have 256megs correct? I'd get at least 384 but 512 would be perfect...my brother's comp (p4 2ghz 256megs pc-2100) struggles even while doing basic things and the hard drive swapping going on is crazy and makes the system not respond for awhile...

Ok I got it. I'll save $11 by going with the 2MB Cache HDD, and I was still $7 under budget previously, so I now have $19 saved. That allows me to get a 256MB stick, and I'll add my 128MB for a total of 384MB of PC2100.

In the reviews of inexpensive printers the Lexmark got poor reviews because it's cost per page were so high. I believe the Canon one is better. Do a search on this board and you'll a post I did a while back with a link to reviews.

The Lexmark inkjet line is bottom feeder quality. I received one as a birthday gift and it was dead in the water after 5 months of moderate use. I replaced it with a Canon and the text quality is much better.
Cheap ink too. I snagged one at FRYS for 29 bucks. (Canon i320)

Well I looked at the i350 and it doesn't seem too bad according to Tom's. The client prolly isn't expecting too great of performance, they know they asked me for a bottom dwelling machine, and thats what they are getting. But I do hope this i350 is good enough though. BTW I have no Fry's nearby.

The Canon i350 should be fine for moderate use and the cost per page is very low compared to other inkjets.

See if you can find an HP 5550. I've had mine for a year and it's still going as strong as the day I got it. It's a bottom feeder also.
