I estimate that 50% of the time I've put into the game has been waiting for my character to walk from one side of the screen to the other. I kept playing away trying to get out of the first town, before I skimmed through some FAQs and came to a realization - the game mainly takes place in this town! At least the first game had some feel of adventuring.

There's too many pointless pots and whatnot to look into, most of them being empty or having 1 gold. There's tons of useless dialog with townspeople, and even the dialogue that has to do with something takes forever to go through. And the town is 10x bigger than it needs to be to fit everything in it, which means that you have to wait 15 seconds to talk to the next person while your characters slowly move across the map.

I was looking forward to an improved game, but they took the flaws from the first (slow walking, large areas, etc.) and made them worse. I started playing Fallout 1 again instead, and it is a good example of how big towns should be and how many useless NPCs there should be (and how easily they can be distinguished from the common folk).
NO WAY!! BG1 had whole screens to walk through for no reason (except the annoying "random encounters"), BG2 almost everything is in the town and easy to get to. BG1 made me mad with all its senseless walking BG2 was a joy with its interparty banter and conflict and its in game romance.
    War... War never changes.

is there a demo for bg2? I remember buying bg1 and there were so many places and houses to walk into it just took me so long to go though each one because I was afraid I would miss something...
