how high can i safely take my mx400?
with stock parts?
right now i have it at 209/219...what can i take it to without frying it? would it be worth it to buy a fan for it and take it as high as i can? how much performance would be added?

Keep increasing the RAM and GPU until you see artifacts. Once that happens, back off 3-5mhz. You should be safe there If you added RAM sinks or a new GPU cooler, you will definately get more out of each. I got an extra 15mhz from my core by adding the Crystal Orb on my GF3.

i wouldn't put a fan on that old card save your money for a new video card.

thats what i was thinking...the only reason why i was even considering getting a fan was if i could use if on a bettre card once i upgrade

dont expect too much
Well the GF2MX00 isnt that bad for overclocking, but you wont see that much increase in performance for it. i got 225/215 for mine. but for benchmarks you dont really see much performance increase for it, like 10% 3DMark, but what can you expect from a 4 year old card.

MX400 cores will ussually do 250Mhz with good cooling but the small performance boost you get from it isnt worth the trouble. Overclocking the memory is much more rewarding.
215 mem is pretty good for the average MX400. My ABit Siluro does around 215. I think i damaged it actually from overclocking too high.(been up to 270/230 with artifacts)
Sometimes on win98 systems it messes up the colour on the start bar. otherwise its still ok.
