Will 2500+ barton be enough for HL2?
Seeing that
Pentium4 2.8
1gig DDR RAM
and Radeon 9800 pro
pumping *barely* 70fps...
Do you guys still recommend people to upgrade to Barton 2500+?
Or should we wait until the price comes down?
Strengths
stock fan
2200mhz @ stock v-core (200 X 11)
2300mhz @ 1.75v (200 X 11.5)
2400mhz @ 1.95v (200 X 12.0)
Going higher than 2400mhz is near impossible with air cooling.

I'd say it should be fine. Just like a botmatch bench in UT2003 yeilds me only ~70FPS also at 1024x768, but actually in game I can play at 1280x1024 and get 90+ FPS. Benches don't necessarily reflect game FPS perfectly.

Is the p4 2.8 a 2.8C with the hyperthreading and all that? If it is, keep it! Better then the barton. What type of memory do you have, motherboard, and what is the type of cpu is that. 2.8B or 2.8C?

Why not wait until the game is actually out before using it as an excuse to blow money?
I just dont get all these people who are buying rigs for upcoming and unfished games, if your buying it for that game wait till the game is out then buy it, youll save money just because of the drop in prices.

I can understand upgrading because the system is old just fine, but saying im building this system for X game, tell me what i need to run it good...
If its for X game just wait till the darn game comes out then buy the hardware suited to it.

if you get a good BArton 2500 and you can OC it well, it will do great. I lucked out, my chip OCs to 2421mhz on a 220fsb without problem. Ran prime95 for over 12 hours. But then again not everyone gets one of these babies.

I have to agree with Chuck232. The CPU should be fine, but you probably want a good video card (9800np or higher) and at least 512MB of RAM.

AMD, and Intel all the way back to 751 AMD, and P3 chipsets with sdram will be "ok" with a moderate vid card like 9600 Pro. AMD XP2500-3200, and P4's - 3.0c are more than enough. Video card makes a big difference - I agree.

Agreed. There is a certain point where pushing the hardware requirements is beneficial, but how many people actaully have Bartons? I can't wait till I get one myself!
