    Pop-up messages

I want to send pop-up message to-and-fro the PCs on my home network (only two at present). One is running WinXP and the other is on Win98SE.

I've tried using NET SEND from the XP machine. It acted as though it was sent but the Win98 rig didn't receive it. When I use WINPOPUP in Win98 the XP machine does receive it.

Is there a way to send such message across the network when the PCs are running those OSes?

A Google search came up with this but I was hoping for a way without using third-party apps.

    Thanks

If you leave WinPopup running on the 98 box, it should receive NET SEND messages. But you'll have to use WinPopup or some other program, as there's no background service for messaging built into the OS in Windows 98.
