TEAM AWESOME!
TV Tuners
I just got a new monitor - a nice ViewSonic VA520. It had some pamphlet in it about a Video Processor, the NextVision N6. Plug it in, plug in a cable, and BAM! Tv on my monitor. This is awfully important to me since I don't have a TV in my dorm. However it costs around 150+ bucks. Could someone inform me about TV tuner cards or a product similar to the NextVision... possibly on a budget of 50-100 or even less if there is something. I just basically want to watch TV and have it look good. Thanks.

I have a Leadtek Winfast 2000XP Deluxe (what a mouthfull) and have been having good radio reception, but no TV, since I need some coaxial cable. Many others also have this card and have had good experiences with it. It's around $50
But, if you don't have a TV in your dorm I could justify $100 for a TV Tuner on steroids like the NextVision.

Hi,
for a PCI, TV tuner, Video in Card be sure to get one with onboard 10BIT analoge to digital chip , and be sure it is Stereo, and with MPEG2, AND MPEG4 format support.
the best 3 in the market r these two "follow the link"
1. MSI tv@anywhere master (MASTER)
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...il.php?UID=460
This one uses Famous Silicon Tuner (digital TV/FM tuner)
and Conexant CX23883 audio/video decoder (10BIT) The best and newest
also, U get FM Radio
2.ASUS TV FM CARD
http://www.asus.com/products/vga/tvfm/overview.htm
uses the same Cx23883 BUT analouge TV Tuner from Philips (thse same one in ATI) but without fm Radio
Edit: and there is another version with FM/RADIO but then chip is philips not Cx.
3. ATI TV wonder (I never used one but the RF remote is cool)
http://www.ati.com/products/tvwonder...ote/specs.html
MSI is better it uses Digital Tv Tuner and the pic quality is superb and the software is coool and it is for 60$ only
Asus comes next.
I think the Tvwonder is cool too and it uses the same chips of the MSI.
My Choice is the MSI go for it
PS the three are Stereo
Pics:
MSI

ASUS

ATI

The MSI is MPEG4 capable, and the bundled software is cool
and one last thing , the remote are IR unlike the ATI which Radio RF (better no line of sight needed...
any whay GO MSI or ATI
Forget all others
I mean it I ve tried them ALL
and only with MSI u get FM radio too the ASUS is only for PAL not ntsc the NTSC version has no FM .
EDIT: There is another card with FM and TV and Pal.NTSC from Asus but with Philips SAA713x chip instead of Connexant CX2388x
bottom line
MSI:
+Connexant CX23883 audio/video decoder (10bits)
+MPEG4
+Software
+Digital Tv tuner
+FM Radio
+very good quality Video in
-Infra red remote
ATI
+its ATI
+Connexant CX23883 audio/video decoder (10bits)
+ATI software
+super video in
+VERY nice Radio controled remote control
-no mpeg4 (not mentioned ask them)
-no Radio FM
u choose

Just get both try them and return the one u dont like

i was also looking for a tv tuner, but how come you say the msi is one of the best while its $30 and some others go up to $150
-
Because price |= quality, and it is the best in that price/feature set range...

This MSI tuner is for 60$ it is the "master" version
another thing, all the TV tuner cards have either philips TV tuner or the famouse silicon digital tuner, aslo the two main analoge to digital decoder chips used in every TV card are Conexant CX2388x or Philips SAA713x chip
u should look for a card with latest chips from Conexant or Philips. the latest now is 10BIT
also look for resolution supported and compression and cabeling "video in, S video in, right left audio in , etc this card has almost all connectors options"
even the TVwonder has the philips tuner and Conexant chip
the main thing THEY ARE THE SAME HARDWAREWISE
be sure to look for 10bit chip and good tv tuner and thats it
this MSI is one of the best, the ATI is too
the 150$ cards may have more software bundle thats all
th tv quality follows the tuner inside, and chipset regardless of manufacturer so follow them ...
