    Help on buying a 1700+

    Hey!

I've always been an intel guy, but I am looking to make a PC on a budget.

I am upgrading my current system (9800 pro, baby!), and I want another Lan machine since my lappy is getting hopelessly outa date.

I have the case and power supply for this thing but heres what I am gonna have the main parts as:

Some sort of Athlon XP, looking at 1700+ on a Nforce.
    512mb DDR 3200
Geforce 4 Ti4400 (out of current machine)
Cheapest 20gb HD I can find.

As for the processor, I heard as long as you get the JIUHB its like a 2.2ghz O/C. This would make me happy...
I know theres others too that can get to 2.5ghz, but I am not worried about a little bit here and there, as this is not my main machine. My question is How do you tell if the card is a JIUHB?
I am thinking of getting it for $50 off newegg.
Also an Nforce would be fine with this baby, or is there a mystical Mobo of +2 something, that will make this thing go even better.

    Finnally, Cpu fan suggestions?

The 1700+s coming out of Newegg have been A revisions. You won't be able to do 2GHZ without a lot of vcore on those. Get the 1800+ with the newest JIXIB revision instead and you will you be MUCH happier.

Since you are on a budget, the 8RDA+ would be the best board for the money. It should be reinstated soon.

Not sure what you want to spend on cooling, but an SK-7 and Smart Fan 2 can be found here for about $30 shipped.

These three items and that 4400 would make a nice gaming rig.

    Thanks!

Hopefully I can keep this under $250...

Just second geussing myself, but it may be a month or three before I get this whole thing. How would a 2500+ fit in?

    Thanks!

In that case, the 8RDA+ should have been reinstated a while before you buy then. Most likey, that means you'll get a Revision 2.1 or better. The Barton will probably drop in price by that time too.

With either proc you get, you'll still be under $250 by a very nice margin.
