Attention: PC-Club has a pretty decent deal on a laptop
I was sent a new ad, and I noticed a kickass laptopfor the price.
AMD 2600 Barton Core
256 PC2700 ram
40GB
DVD/CDRW combo drive. I am sure they use the 24X max cd-r write speeds
M10 64DDR
WSXGA 15.1 inch screen wide screen
for 1500$
If ya ask me thats not bad at all. also there laptops are well made. I own a Centrino laptop from them. Strudy, light, and good crisp screens.

Wow, that looks like an awesome system. I think I may consider it. How's battery life though? And that M10P gfx card is a 64MB Mobility Radeon 9600 right?

I don't see anything special about it. I bet you can find Intel laptops around $1300 (maybe $1400) with similiar specs (not sure about DVD-RW though).

You don't know what you're talking about. First off if you mean a Centrino system with a Pentium-M there are none with an M10 card. Also, you cna get a 1.4GHz P-M, M9 card, 30GB HDD, combo drive, and a 15" LCD for around the same price. Not sure which you prefer. One has a better gfx card and one has a better cpu. I do believe the cpu difference isn't too big, I think battery life may be greater on the P-M laptop though, probably not by much though. So, yes, this is a good deal, IMHO.

No longer true. The Gateway M505 (aka Gigabyte N601); HP nc6000, nc8000 & nw8000; and IBM T41p & R50p all have Pentium M CPUs and ATi M10 GPUs.
Also, you are correct, M10 = 9600 (or the workstation version called the FireGL T2).

OMG! The P-M laptops with the M10 cards are out! I didn't even realize it! They will cost a lot, but they are the best out there IMO.

Most cost a lot, but the Gateway M505X goes for $1599 without the optional carrying case. Link to M505X

In favor of the Gateway M505:
- You can go down to your local Gateway Country store and try it before you buy it
- It is produced for Gateway by Gigabyte, a good company with a good reputation for quality and technical support.
- You get three levels of technical support: local store, Gateway national and Gigabyte
Against the Gateway M505:
- It has very limited customer customizability

To be honest, for that kind of money, you can have an absolute monster from dell small business, like a 3.06 ht, 512 ram, 40 gb Hard drive, and the really good screen i think its called uxga or usga.

Absolutely untrue. No Dell laptops are currently available with ATi 9600 graphics. As to why this is important, see the AnandTech review here.
If you think you can measure the performance of a laptop by the clockspeed of its CPU, then see the article here
