    Trying to decode a message. . .

Hey, I have a quick question. A friend of mine has challenged me to decode a message he found somewhere. It's not really a big deal if it can't be done, but I do want to impress him.

The message looks like it simply needs to be converted from Hex to Ascii.

Here is an excerpt of the data:

The first thing I did was convert the message to ASCII, but all I got was a whole bunch of junk.
Obviously some type of encryption is at work here. My question is: how would you go about further decoding a "random" message like this? Would you remove every X characters or MOD every value by a magic number?
Do you know of any good resources that would show how to decode this?I want to try to do it myself if possible.
Or is there a program that does it all for you?
    Custom system: Needs upgrading. Bad.

The first thing I'd do is to decode using mainframe character codes such as EBCDIC and ECMA. I'm sure that NSA can decode the message in a nanosecond.
