Post A question about sony flat screens

I notice that on the 19" sony g400, at 1280x1024, the text is perfectly crisp. But on the 21" e540 at the same resolution, the text isn't as crisp. Is this because the e540 isn't as good, or becuase it is bigger?

Each LCD screen has its own "Prefered" rez, try a bigger or smaller rez on that thing, you should hit the one that does the crisp text. My ViewSonic 23" LCD needs to be at 1600x1200 in order to have the best performance, my Laptop's TFT screen needs to be at 1024x768 in order to get nice text, so just play with it...

The dot pitch is identical on those two monnitors (they're CRTs, for the guy that answered before me), and they're both Aperture Grille, which just isn't quite as good for text as Shadow Mask, so I'm going to say that you need to try adjusting your convergence to see if you can get a better result on the e540.

The only difference between the G400 and the E400 it's refresh rate above 1280x1024, I believe. (the g is a little higher).

I'm going to look at the convergence thing.

Try running both of them at their max res and then see how sharp both look.

The reason the 21" appears bad is because you are running it at a "low resolution" for it's size. 1280x1024 on a 19" is very high resolution. 1280x1024 on 21" is somewhat middle grade resolution. Run it at 1600x1200 on the 21" and you'll see the image sharpen up quite a bit.

To follow up on what I said before, I have a friend who bought a 21" monitor and then ran his desktop at 1024x768 @ 60Hz. I couldn't believe it! Looked like crap. Whats the use of buying a $600 monitor if you make it look the same as a 17" monitor? So I slapped him a few times and changed his resolution to 1280x1024 and refresh rate to 85Hz and it looked 10 times better.

Then I changed it to 1600x1200 and it was perfect for me... but my friend is stupid and likes to see big blocky ugly text so he said 1280x1024 was good enough for him.

I think that I just have to play with it a little. I have it at 1600x1200, I had it too dark, and I played with the settings a little and it looks pretty good now.
