i have a friend that is running a copy but he just used a crack to get around the windows protection.

I bet a crack for the copy protection would be out on the net a week after XP begins selling. I use cracks even for my legitimately owned (licensed) software - I want my games to work without the CD, because the whirring sound drives me nuts.
