    Best Civ 4 mods?

anyone still playing civ 4? it's been a really long time since I've played it and I'm just wondering if anyone could recommend any mods...the only thing that I didn't care for was like spearmen could kill tanks and such...there was a mod that fixed that but unfortunately it included a lot of other stuff that I didn't want changed...any mods like that? and while we're at it...any other good mods?

Not really a mod, but a new expansion just came out in the last few days that I've heard nothing but good things about.

Beyond the Sword expansion just came out yesterday. It concentrates more on today's type of civs then civ iv did itself.

It brings in some addtional senarios, ethnic groups, and a whole bunch of modern units once you hit gunpowder. I'm a little afraid that these changes will turn the game into arms race where who ever has gunpowder is pretty much the winner.

So, essentially, it will be that much more like real life.

You mean you didn't like it when your archer could defeat a tank (civ II if I remember right)?

Yeah I just reinstalled this to pick up the expansions. Does anyone have a link where it gives an example or description of the different map styles for custom games? I miss the old way where it showed the globe or map as you changed the map type so you got an idea what type of land you would be playing on.

Ok, I broke down and bought Beyond the Sword instead of some xbox game. Just played the first and it was pretty cool. Lots of new addons that I think you'll really enjoy. For one thing they have random scenarios like "there was a massive flood and your farm was destroyed" then it goes on to give you a couple options where you can send help or ignore them. Also I noticed that the AI is a little smarter now. I got my butt handed to me and I was only on the Warlord level. Next time I get a 10hr block I'll fire it up again.

OMG...fired it u plast night at 7 and couldn;t put it away till midnight...crazy addictive.

In other news, why is it so freaking difficult to take fortified cities! You'd thing that an Rifleman would have an easy time against axemen and archers.

The side quests are pretty cool as well. There's also more types of troops to develop. You have troops dedicated to taking out artillary and diff types of catapults and early ships too. This will definitely take a lot longer to play then civ iv itself.
