    Dialup option?

    Dialup option?

I'm on vacation for a week and before I left, checked with the facility and they said if I'm in the main building I could subscribe to their wifi service. Ops! That's great except our place is on the 4th floor and we can't get it here.

I called my provider and signed up for dialup for a week. Needless to say, it's driving me bonkers, I have FIOS at home.

For the next time I get into this situation I'd like other short term options.

Can you get satellite coverage for a week? Any suggestions.

This would normally be for California, Nevada or Arizona.

You are better off using cell phone technology at 256kbps and up at ~$40 per month is you have a voice agreement with the cell phone provider. Most are month to month. I use that method when I am traveling and my provider only charges $20 per month for unlimited usage.

Can you explain further. Do you use the phone as a wifi source and then use a laptop or do you just use your phone?

I tether the cell phone to the laptop. how ever some agreements do not allow that.

Plan B is to purchase a PC card for direct internet access from your PC.
If you have a voice contract with the ISP the cost is ~$40 per month for unlimited use within the USA. Roaming charges apply outside the USA. As usual they are outrageous at ~$1 per minute depending on the provider and your plan.

When I travel outside the USA, I purchase a prepaid SIM so that I have a local number and avoid roaming charges. On ship (Regent) I have free unlimited Internet use.
