    Need laptop under $600

A friend of mine is looking for a new laptop for under $600. She wants
to buy local, but I think she can find a better deal online. This will be for
schoolwork mostly, email, office apps, no games (except for solitare probably). This is what I'm looking for...

    Intel C2D
1GB of RAM (upgradable to 2GB)
    CD/DVD Burner
    Windows XP Home (no Vista)
    80GB HDD is fine
    WiFi
    !5" Screen

I think that's about it. If you guys find any good deals out there, please let me know. She wants to buy this week.

True. What do you think of this laptop? I'm not familiar with the Dell Vostro. But it seems to meet all my requirements.

That's quite a good deal, but can't you drop the video card and go with integrated video instead to save some money?

Try craigslist. I am looking at a couple newer Sony Vaio's that exceed your requirements for around 650 right now.
