Windows 7 Boxed Software Sales Surpass Vista Launch, According to NPD

    http://www.npd.com/press/releases/press_091105a.html

According to NPD’s weekly tracking service**, Windows 7 software unit sales in the U.S. were 234 percent higher than Vista’s first few days of sales. Revenue growth wasn’t as strong though. A combination of early discounts on pre-sales and a lack of promotional activity for the Ultimate version resulted in dollar sales that were 82 percent higher than Vista.

Like the article states though, how much of that can be attributed to the pre-launch sales back in the summer that effectively halved the cost for those who pre-ordered?

Oh well, hopefully the strong sales continue and help MS shed the (IMO, unfair) stigma of Vista.

I didn't pre-order Vista, not because I thought it sucked, but because there were no immediate incentives to upgrade right away like the great pre-order deals or the family packs that 7 had.

I never had problems with Vista, but I doubt I will ever have to use it again since I am fully upgraded to 7 at home and work will never go to Vista now that 7 is out.
