I don't think Spank understands historical precedent, or he refuses to take off his rose-colored Dolphins glasses. Too bad he's not a bookie, we could all make bank off his inability to accept odds.

He could do very well as a pass rusher in Ryans system. Its pretty funny he spends 1 year with Miami playing outside linebacker, then bolts for the Jets to play the same position.

Jason Taylor is one of my fav players.
But I don't know just how much he has left in the tank and how useful he'll be. Though I can't believe that the 'Phins allowed both him and Porter to go in the same off season. Effectively killing any pass rush that they had.
He did have somewhat of a bounceback season with 7 sacks after a very bad season with the 'Skins. Though I think that injuries and the crappy 'Skins system may have both contributed to that season. Or maybe he's just running out of gas.
I don't think Spank understands historical precedent, or he refuses to take off his rose-colored Dolphins glasses. Too bad he's not a bookie, we could all make bank off his inability to accept odds.
LOL!
This is a lark.
I haven't had a whole lot of optimism about the 'Phins for quite some time.
I was shocked that they made the playoffs two seasons ago after their 1-15 campaign. I figured that last season they wouldn't pull that off again. After some horrific draft years, they are still very much in the rebuilding mode.
"Rose coloured glasses"? LOL! Please stop, my sides are splitting from laughter.
Getting Brandon Marshall after having exceedingly little at the WR position is a VERY good development... but it sure hasn't made me blind drunk about their chances. Because as I mentioned earlier, if has been offset a great deal by now having no pass rushers to speak of. Which in this pass happy league spells serious trouble.
Which leaves historical precedent.
One could say that Revis's one SUPER season will be the norm from him for years to come, but I don't think that he'll be able to duplicate it. Don't get me wrong, I think that he'll be very good... just not THAT good again. I think that it'll be an anomolly, not the norm for the next 8 years from him. THAT is more "historical precedent" than a player duplicating the likes of the season that he had.
You may cream your panties and assume that he's going to duplicate that year for years to come, but I'll believe it when I see it. I won't assume "OMGZ, he beez teh best playa EVA!" until he can duplicate that one more time.
Wanna wager if he'll duplicate that season again next season?
I wager that he'll be good, but not THAT good again...

I'll wager that the Jets will shut down the Dolphins like how Icelandic volcanoes shut down European air travel.

I'd wager the same. What shade does that make my glasses?
That however, is much different than Revis duplicating his last season.

I don't believe anyone said he would. You just got all worked up because someone stated that he was likely to shut down Brandon Marshall, which he is, from precedent against other stud receivers. Until data shows otherwise, the odds are against you, not with you.
Now how about them glasses?

You posted this after md1198p posted how Revis shut down every stud receiver he faced last year.
Exactly what other "historical precedent" were you refering to? Toe jam gathering between your toes?
To quote Ocho Cinco: "Please child".
Oh wait:

Thank you for verifying the point.
Unless you are implying that he'll shut down every stud receiver that he faces only to be beaten like a red headed step child by dud receivers?
Are you a bookie perchance? Please say yes...

I'm gonna let this go before you get all wound up and argue semantics about assumptions again.
In real news, the Pats signed Torry Holt. Nice receiving corps there, with Moss, Holt and Welker.

Big Ben suspended today for 4-6 games for violating the conduct code. Good call on the Steelers anticipating this and picking up Leftwich the other day.

Pretty sure it's a 6 game suspension from what I've read, and the Steelers had Leftwich last season, unless the re-signed him again.
Last season I remember their 3rd stringer started a prime time game and I thought he looked pretty good, I can't remember for sure but I want to say it was Denis Dixon, and I believe it was against the Ravens. Either way, whoever it was, he looked like a very capable backup, and really decent for a 3rd string guy.

Crazy.
Will be good for the 'Phins as they face the Steelers in one of those games.
Though once again, the 'Phins have managed to piss me off.
Historically, they have started out strong, and have faded near the end of the season. With the exception being two seasons ago when they made the playoffs.
The theory is that they have other teams at a disadvantage playing in Miami heat and humidity in September, but then have the tables turned against them playing in the cold of Buffalo/NE/NY in December.
This year, as in most years, they have two games at these divisional opponents in December.
So why am I mad?
Because this season, for retarded reasons, the owner of the 'Phins successfully lobbied the NFL to have later starting games in September to give their fans a break from the heat and humidity. As it has turned out, those games are actually night games.
Sweet. Take away your own advantage, and still have to play at a disadvantage later in the year. Brilliant.
Unbelieveable.

You're letting go because you decided to jump in with a snarky comment and have discovered that you put yourself in an indefensible position.
I'll bludgeon you one more time with this:
As for understanding "historical precedent"... you know... the term that you introduced to the discussion, the only once have only played (to my knowledge) in Revis's time with the Jets. In his first All Pro year in 2008.
Marshall had 5 catches for 55 yards and no TDs that game.
Not a massive game day for him, but not that shabby either. Pretty average I'd say. Much better than many other star WRs had against Revis last year.
As best as I can see from the footage, it looks to me like Revis was covering him that day.
If not, then Revis fared even worse. The other starting WR for the Broncos was Eddie Royal. And he had 5 catches for 84 yards and one TD that day.
So as far as I can tell, any "historical precedent" of Revis shutting down Marshall doesn't exist.
I don't need semantics or assumption to club you like a helpless baby seal on this. In fact, I didn't have to do anything other than check the results... you hung yourself in it. You know... based off your introduced "hsitorical precedent".
Gag on that for a bit.

I don't get what ever happened to Leftwich.
I remember him having a few pretty good years in Jacksonville.
Then suddenly, he fell off the map as a starting QB. Not too old, and no gruesome injury that I can recall.

Blah blah blah, why don't you argue with the encyclopedia again?
Revis is awesome, I hope he shuts down the Dolphins volcano-style.

No need to.
I've already left this baby seal in it's death throes.

Obviously, I don't. Not just because the 'Phins are my fav team and that the Jets are in the same division. I don't hate the Pats, yet I can't stand the Jets.
Marshall is also awesome. It's going to be one of the best "game within the games" to watch.
I won't be surprised to see one or the other to have a big game against the other. And I wouldn't even count on the results being consistent every game after that.
And on any given day, I don't think that anybody will be able to predict the outcome. This isn't exactly Deion Sanders covering James Thrash here where one has a VERY good idea what the outcome will be.
