At PC bong you pay $1 (or about .80 actually)
Cool way to try out games. However, it is worth 2x more to be able to sit in the comfort of home. Plus, I've never spent that much on a new computer. I built this thing back in 2008 for around 800 and recently added a 100 dollar videocard for crossfire. I usually only buy on steam sales, so I don't spend much on games.
Also, most people need a normal computer which costs around 500 bucks. Add 300 in for a videocard and you are gaming. So really, the cost for gaming on a computer is only the cost of a decent videocard and the games.

I am jealous someone beat me to the punch on making the SC2 thread. I figured I would a list of videos and stuff to start anyone on the path of SC2 multiplayer greatness. This game is one of the most addictive games I have played in a long time. In my opinion it is getting a bad reputation from mostly rumors, and people who have not played it.
SC2 mp does offer a matchmaking service. Your first 5 games will be your placement matches. Depending on how well you play assigns you in one of the following leagues: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Diamond is the top level. There are different ladders for each flavor of mp 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, etc. You can be placed in an entirely different league for each category.
Common SC terms:
macro: base and economy managment
micro: managing units in battle
build order: what you build and when
food: supply capability. Increase your army size capabilities by building supply structures depending on race
rax: barracks (terran unit producing structure)

Forgot to add something about the SC2 map editor, which is pretty robust. Someone is already working on a Metal Slug remake using the SC2 units and map editor.

Senorgotti, great post above. I'm noticing some Dawn of War fans on here bashing the game a bit. Take a look at the game for yourself before you make a decision. There are a ton of you-tube videos out there showing off the game from the beta. I was lucky enough to get in the beta and will be buying this come release. Grab some friends and go head-to-head or team up on the ladder system. I would advise Skype for team games since the in-game voice is not as good.
This will be THE RTS to play for years to come, just like the first one was. Check 6 months from now to see who is still playing Supreme Commander 2(fun with icons and unit spamfest) or Dawn of War(no bases) and I bet Starcraft has 10,000 times that many active players.

Thanks Schmunkel. I really do not think the people criticizing this game have actually played it. I can understand the hesitation. SC2 was completely off my radar, but I started hearing allot of positive things so I got the beta. The game is a blast, and its actually fun to watch the top players compete. I have never watched people play a game until this one. SC2 is completely different than DoW 2.
Also DoW 2 < SC2

I meant Starcraft 2 > DoW2, but yes a completely different game. Never played Supreme Commander.

I have played it and I'm really just not into that style of RTS anymore. I much prefer the more tactical, team-oriented style of Dawn of War 2 to the fast-clicking, perfect-build-order-focused games like Starcraft. I dunno, I was expecting a new experience, not Starcraft with new units and better graphics.

DoW 2 felt slow, and didn't seem to have the variety of tactics (mp). I tried to like it so I would have something to play when the first phase of the SC2 beta was down, but did not like it. Build order, economics, positions is a huge part of the game, but allot of things are streamlined in Starcraft 2. You do not have to have 150 actions per minute to be successful. Command queing units saves times, and helps prevent idle workers.

I got a SC2 beta key a few days ago. I don't think I'm going to use it though. I'm not giving it away though so don't ask :P

King of the beta tournament. Series of games played by high level/pro players out of North America and Europe. Games were finished before the beta ended, but the commentator is releasing a different match up until release date. Great series so far, and a good representation of the game for those that are curios.

I love DoW 2's campaign but can't stand the mp. I definitely prefer the old-school SC style I'm no good at it but it's still fun!
