I ordered some AS Ceramique yesterday. I'm going to put some of that on the card and use the stock HSF that came with the card and see how much it drops the temps. If that isn't enough, I'm going to get this fan and see if it does the trick. If not, I guess I'll have to pony up the dough for a GTX460 or 470. Will my CPU be a bottleneck for either of those cards?

Idra can come off as a **** sometimes but it's hard to argue his zvt balance complaints when he's doing his crazy macroing through 10 bases to overcome drewbie's 4.
Me... I'd lose horribly to both no matter how many bases.

You can play when you not connected to the internet btw. My internet went out for a night and I played a bunch of the campaign. Good stuff.

I played through the whole campaign and endless hours of skirmishes with the AI. You just login as guest.
Come to think of it, I've just done everything through the guest account.

I wanted to pop in on the video card overheating issue. I also have a 4850 and had some recent problems with it on this game. I did not use the bug fix that was posted, and instead I just upgraded my case fans since that sucker was getting seriously hot. I have not had any issues on Ultra since then. I may try the fix to see if that improves my temps overall.

I blew the dust out of the fan and heatsink on the video card with some canned air and my idle temps dropped from 88 to 81 and my graphics card doesn't go over 86 when I'm in game. I was amazed because it didn't seem like my video card was even that dusty, but it definitely made a difference. I also installed my old Soundblaster 2 ZS sound card. Maybe my mobo didn't like the onboard sound being used causing the video card to overheat? That doesn't sound very logical so I'm just going to assume blowing the dust off fixed it.
Also, I replaced the stock thermal compound on the GPU with some Arctic Silver Creamique and it has yet to change the temps any.

That may be what you did but I did not have to. I played my game under my account. According to others on this thread there would be no playing offline, correct? Rumors have been thrown away once again about this game, much like some of you said every game would be $60. Again, not true. Seems to me like there are just some haters around here.

I'm probably the only person here playing Starcraft 2 on a Mac, but I just thought I'd mention that the most recent OS and Starcraft updates fixed all of the performance issues that were plaguing the game. It's probably still not quite as good as on Windows, but I now get the performance I was expecting from day 1.
I'm running the game on an old Macbook Pro with a 2.2GHz C2D, 2GB RAM, and an nVidia 8600m. Before I was running it at 1440x900, lowest everything and it was choppy. Now it's smooth at the same resolution and medium setting.
Gameplay wise, I've been training my macro and multitasking. I'm still not a very good micro player, but I win over 2/3 of my games just by having more stuff than my opponent, and not losing track of what my base is doing while I'm in combat. Think I'll be in gold league soon. Of course I play T which is overpowered at the moment, but I'm sure the game will be balanced in due time.
If anyone here is in bronze, I'm pretty sure you can get out of there in a day or two just by figuring out how hotkeys work and constantly building workers until you have at least 50. Then all you need is one basic build order to follow that gets you some form of early defense (you can, and should, wing it from about 20 supply) and you're good.

The main problem I'm having now is being constantly matched up with gold, platinum, and diamond level players despite being on a bronze team with friends. I think the matching system goes for speed above all else, letting league compatibility slide. I hear if you crank out more than say 30 games it tends to get better, however, that is a lot of matches per team if you have multiple 3v3 and 4v4 teams as I do. I have about 5 friends that play this consistently so we tend to mix up our teams and play. I am still having fun, but it does suck to get stomped by players that are crazy better than you for 5 games in a row.

I win almost every game using Medivacs MM and Tanks. Scout them for rushes and other cheese, wall up, fly 3-4 Medivacs with MM and 2 tanks into their main mineral line. Profit.
You will at least hurt their economy badly. I also expand during this attack. Most will gg within 60 seconds of it landing.
If you can pull this off quickly without them seeing what's going on, you've pretty much got it made.
I also fly all around looking for expansions and drop on those. This tactic works pretty well, at least in the Gold league.

You will probably get to platinum doing that. Most of the lower leagues seem to be about scouting cheese and beating it. Sprinkle in some Ghosts and you destroy most Protoss.

If it goes later than the first initial drop, I do bring in Ghosts against Protoss to deal with that lethal Psi Storm.
I also generally go Marines at first to deal with any Void Rays that may come over quickly. This can hurt me if they rush Stalkers but in that case I usually just grab whatever I got and drop right away in their mineral line while they are beating me up with Stalkers. Lift off your buildings and start moving away. They may wipe my base but I've wiped theirs as well and still have most of my buildings in the air and ready to regroup somewhere.
