More hard drive questions
I posted about a bunch of issues I was having with my hard drive. I concluded that it was finally dead. It is a WD cavier black 750gb drive. I ordered a new drive but have not had time to install it so the drive is still in the computer. I am booting off an old IDE drive I have mounted in a removable rack. Anyway, it happened about 2 weeks ago. I just booted up the computer and all of a sudden the drive is back as if nothing had happened. I looked around and all the data seems intact. The two partitions are intact etc. So what ups up with the drive? I am about to run WD diagnostics on the drive.

Is it plugged into a different port? Using different cable?

Posting the test results will be a good idea

Chkdsk gave me a "can't read security descriptors" error. The drive has been plugged into the same SATA connector all the time. Is it possible that there is an issue with the connector? OR does it just need to be repartitioned and reformated. I know I am going to have to pull the computer apart at some point but I have been dragging my geet since I am up and running now.

Geez, that must hurt
Having once dragged my geet, I know how painful it is
EDIT: Yes, try a different cable or port first, if no improvement, try to reformat.

I have a new drive. I am going to partition it into 2 for boot and data. I'll clone my current boot drive. I'll reformat the problem drive and see if that eliminates the problem. I can use the extra storage to back up my music etc too. At this point I don't trust it to be my boot disk anyway.
