Nvidia VC driver update killed USB, network etc

So I updated my video card driver and now the keyboard and mouse don't work when I load up Windows login screen.

At least thats what I think happened. Just rounding up backup of my HD now, then I'm going to try to rollback the driver somehow and/or update the chipset drivers.

The thing is I can't control the PC in any way as the usb ports don't work and neither does the ps/2 port. And I *think* the network port is also dead because I have tried using remote desktop to no avail.

Plan now is to tcpdump on my laptop with a patch cable into the affected PC to see if there is any network activity so that I can maybe get the IP and connect using remote desktop. If that doesn't work, and I'm prety certain it won't - what are my options?

Now verified that I have no network either. So that rules out remote desktop option. Next I guess is to boot from a CD and try to fix it that way.

I suspect something else going on there. Given probably 100s of nVidia driver installs I have never seen them cause the problems you describe. I'd look into some other cause.

Managed to find a Vista rescue disc, and have now booted with that and restored to a point at the start of the month. So far, so good. Everything seems to be working again. I won't be updating the vc driver just yet, though! At least update the chipset drivers+os first.

Read some places that a windows update can cause this, but that is usually on laptops. This is a home-built PC. Reason I think it is a driver problem is because keyboard and mouse worked @ boot/bios, and obviously because they are working again now after the restore.
