I don't post much as I play at odd times. It is your guys server and I am a guest. Do as you please I can start over, but if you dump all a heads up on board would be nice. School has started for the fall and I will be busy with little time to play now but will try to check form as often as I can and see what happens. I like this server everyone is helpful to others that I have meet and would like to stay on it. JPacke

Any update? I log on the Sharky server here and there but haven't seen anyone at all on lately.

To anyone still interested in MC - you should really check out the MineZ mod - it is a LOT of fun. It's a server-side mod, so you don't have to download/install anything on your machine. The developers even host it on public servers.

    Info: http://imgur.com/a/a0mV1
    Official Site: http://minez.net/

Just a warning though - you'll run across a lot of players who will try to pk you in addition to packs of fast-moving zombies. It's a good idea to find a town near your spawn, grab what you need, and head north. Friends help too - I run with a few people, and once we group up, for the most part no one messes with us. I can't recommend this mod highly enough... it's tough getting past the initial part, but once you do, exploring is a lot of fun in this huge custom world.

I haven't been playing much. I've downloaded mcedit, but haven't spent almost any time with it. I'll try tonight and see what I can find.

I quit playing because there is no point in continuing work on my village if it's all just gonna be reset by the vocal minority anyway.

Vocal minority? I counted 3 votes so far. Add my vote to that, and De4estation and Gus4NYR (voted #3 - would be happy to get them to post here), and that's 6. With so few people on the server, what would constitute a majority?

Edit - if it's going to cause people to quit, I suppose we should just forget the map thing. I thought it would be awesome to have a "fresh" map with the new content to work with.

As someone who likes to play Minecraft as a survival game, MineZ looks pretty awesome.

I guess I should login and check out the village. I haven't been in the minecraft server in a few weeks. And starting Wednesday, it will be even longer. (Borderlands2 launches.) I am actually OK with our current map. I am also interested in seeing what's new out there.

What it really comes down to is that I love coming back to minecraft after a spell of not having played it. But it is not my primary game at any given time.

People who log in less than me.

I spent a whole lot of time in August/early September farming way more cane than I'll ever need (for the paper->emeralds villager trade) and expanding one of our villages which actually has villagers in it...flattening the land, building a big glass wall, adding new houses, adding an observation deck on the mountain above, etc. This also includes building (and using ) about a 3000 block long tunnel* to it from main base during the period when the nether portals didn't work.

Then one day when I was about halfway through adding the houses into my expanded-village area, I logged in here to find people talking about a new map and (according to post on 9/7) James agreeing with it. It sounded imminent, so I didn't feel like putting any more effort into the village.

All those 12 doublechests full of paper and whole sets of max-enchanted diamond tools and 30 stacks of emeralds will go to waste.

tl;dr: If we keep the map, I'll finish the village; if we switch maps I'll be annoyed but probably play anyway; if it's in question, I'll stay away.

*for those unfamiliar with minecraft distances, if you use an "8 minute speed potion" it pretty much takes the full 8 minutes to run from one end to the other...or longer without the potion...just ask Monroeski

So, not a minority at all. I mean, plenty of us would be losing work. I personally would lose over 50% of what I've worked on. You might hate losing anything at all, but many people feel that giving up some work is worth gaining a map with more possibilities.

And you could easily move those resources into the proposed saved space via rail and chest carts. Even the villagers could be sent via cart. The distance is comparable to the rail Gus and I built in short order in the nether, and I'd be happy to build such a rail for us all to move resources from the remote town. I have a bunch of paper too, from building the 100% automated cane farm up on the hill.

Honestly, I don't care anymore. If I feel like getting on to adventure again at some point, I'll just make the ridiculous trip out to new content. Or start a single player map.

Yeah, as long as you don't mind a high degree of danger and risk, it's great. The game can be brutal. Last night, I was adventuring with 2 friends, and we went to a city pretty far north called Grayvale. There was one guy there, and he asked to team with us. Next thing you know he takes out one of us. We managed to kill him, but our buddy has to start all over again at the beginning of the map.

Brutal, but lots of fun. And I had some choice words for that guy after killing him.

We've changed maps before. It's not so much about the loss of work as the loss of a specific, big work-in-progress.

In general, the longer it has been since I built something, the less I care about it, so now that I haven't played in a week in a half I say let's just start a brand new map altogether.

    Here's what I'd do:
    - keep the tower, partly because of the time invested in it, but also because it encompasses a single rectangular prism from bedrock to the sky, so it should be incredibly easy to cut and drop it anywhere in the new map without worrying about how it matches up to the land around/under/above it (unless you drop it in the ocean, or next to lava...)
    - put all the storage chests to keep in the tower before the move; that'll provide an actual use for the tower after the move as well, with each person taking a floor (or two, or probably ten considering the floor-to-user-ratio) as James intended
    - wait until we've expanded out too far again before moving anything else; then when no one really cares about what happens to the far outer map again, start dropping in stuff (main base, jamestown, skull tower, etc) out there from the current (or older) maps so we can revisit them

I like the main base, but it has its issues (that one spot that gets really laggy when it rains, the tunnels which will go to nowhere, etc); and I like Jamestown, but we can always build New Jamestown which actually has villagers; and I like the skull, but Rush is gonna help rebuild anything we ask for....

My son is playing on the server now occasionally. I think I'll have him make a Sharky account so he can participate in your Mine-speak because I have no idea about any of it. I just know when I see him play - he's usually running for his life because I've instructed him to find a desolate area and not tear up anyone elses stuff. So he doesn't mine anything. I think the main thing he needs to know is - is there a way to fast travel or locate specific areas (such as Jamestown). He's always around this one large house? or whatever with an orange wall outside of it.

Yeah....I think he needs to make an account on here.

    Most likely this: http://darksavior.net/~minecraft/#/165/64/190/-1/0/0

I don't remember who built the house, but the pumpkin-face-wall was me.

I'm waiting for "real" mounts and/or vehicles to be added. Once we have those, I shall return.
If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.
