The Iris CPU are too expensive to consider..

Sadly AMD are not a threat to Intel any more ... there is no Price war.

I agree you have no more price war, BUTT AMD so far creams the crap out on Intel when it comes to iGPU performance on a desktop CPU.

The A10 is still a better choice for a laptop and what is the point of integrated graphics on a desktop? I don't really need a new system at the moment. I'll see how Steamroller performs and maybe think about a system then. If they get another 20% performance then an 8 core CPU might be a good option.

This was expected. Haswell was only meant to marginally increase IPC and drive down idle states. It is actually more power hungry under load. I've heard some really poor reviews about the temperatures. Overclocking is almost a non-starter without higher end cooling. A Corsair H110 was hitting 80C at 4.3Ghz for some. I haven't seen any go over 4.5Ghz on out-of-the-box coolers.

im most excited about bay trail actually...

    i love my win8 tablet (samsung 500t):
    - 1.8ghz cedar trail
    - 2gb ram (chipset limitation)
    - 64gb ssd
    - 11" touchscreen with wacom digitizer
    - 10+ hours battery life
    - runs full windows apps (photoshop, steam, desktop chrome and firefox, etc)
even has USB and HDMI... i played some classic games via steam with my xbox360 controller; all this in an ipad sized package

my only gripes are the low res and slightly laggy performance.. bay trail is supposed to have i3 levels of performance with lower power consumption!

I've been drawn to the win8 tablets but can't justify a slot in my tech lineup for one. I use an iPad 3 a lot to surf the net when on break or done for the day. I need a large screen to perform my daily work, so a desktop is a must. Win8 splits the difference between a workstation and a consumption-only device, but I have and need both of those so there's not really a spot for the win8 tab. I would have LOVED to have one in college though!

its great... its almost a must have for running classic desktop because the icons and buttons are tiny and hard to hit with your finger. the digitizer also lets you "hover" the mouse cursor which you cant do with a typical capacitive touchscreen

the response is very smooth, i was actually surprised at the performance due to the low specs but i dont notice lag unless i am really trying to make it falter

the 64gb SSD is also limiting but i have a 128gb microSD in there as a secondary drive

i picked it up for $312 shipped from amazon as a refurb and its really a no brainer at that price
