    Question Freezing exits in win2k

Hi Sharky, i'm a long time reader of your pages and i'm thrilled to see your forum. I bought a GeForce2 for one off my PC's. The horrid Compaq 5726 pIII 500 256ram asf. I't works with the GeForce in every respect except for one. No hibernation and it always freezes up on exit I've tried every driver known to man and Nvidia/Creative. Compaq is of no use. They say that the 5726 is a win98 machine with a S3 card and not a win2k box with a GeForce2

Don't even waste your time with Compaq's worthless tech support. Their tech support is a complete joke and chances are you know 10x more then they do. The reason they don't want to help you if you have one single thing in the computer that was not there when you bought it is #1 they only know how to fix it if it is written on their computer screen and #2 If you want to have something better in your computer they want you to go out a buy a new Compaq. Well anyway, did hibernation work before you put in the GeForce? My old compaq's shut down and hibernation did not work when I put Win2k on it.

Thank You for your reply. Concerning the matter of the machine working prior to GeForce2 install. Yes, on three accounts! Orignal S3-card did function, with or without a Voodoo2 card (Brilliant w2k drivers from 3dfx btw, even their nt drivers were good enough in w2k) The horrid maschine also funtioned with a Ati rage fury 128 (Now thats awfull w2k support!) I'm miffed. When i disable the GeForce2 drivers, it hibernates!

    Hi Cawemo,

I've got to be a bit more careful with my words and to be honest I've never bought anything from Compaw before. I knew a person that worked there once (Redwood aka Sean Martin at www.stomped.com) but that's about the size of it. What shawnmos says is pretty correct. They don't want to help you there...

I'll check with Ben about that in Win2k seeing as he's our resident MS expert (post this in his forum too) but you're not the first one to say this. It might be a driver issue that NVIDIA isn't aware of. As I said you're not the first to state this so I'll bring it up with them next time I see 'em (in a week I think) and see what they say.

Thanks for the kind words, sorry I can't help more with your issue just yet and glad you like the forums.

    Thank you and g'nite
