    Post Chrome Orb uncool??

    Hi all...

    I have a T-Bird 900 Mhz on a MSI KT7-Pro2a

I just replaced the stock Heat Sink and Fan (HSF) with a Chrome orb. The temperature jumped from 38 C to 43 C in idle. Then I figured maybe the thermal tape did it, so I cleaned that up completely and used some conducting paste. Now the idle temperature jumped up to 49 C.

I heard that the Chrome orb performs better then the stock HSF, so what gives? Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for any input.

well....chrome orbs...i'm just gonna come out and say it....are bad. They're better than retail HSFs but not by all that much. You could have put too much thermalpaste on. You need only a thin layer.

If you don't mind buying a new HSF i suggest a Fop32 or Fop38-1. You temp will drop a lot.

It could also be seated incorrectly.

    Agilent Arcticooler the original 'orb'

it's a really good all-around heatsink - quiet and performs up to par with the 'bad boys' such as the GWs.

Did I mention it looks damm cool?

Orbs are highly misread by socket-thermsitors(IE Socket A mbs). They don't perform as well as "reviews" on the net show.
