Random Lockups..............help
I recently purchased a
AMD 850 Tbird Socket A
Abit KT7a
256 mb PC133 ram
I run Win2k Pro, which i had to reinstall due to the fact that I changed to a different chipset and Win2k did not like that at all.
Now I get some random lockups while just in Windows and when it shuts the monitor off it won't come back if left off for a long time.
The monitor is the only thing that gets turned off, not the HD's, and all the Power Management in the bios is turned off.
I don't get it..........
I'm dying over here..........hehe

Right click on desktop> properties> screen saver> power management. Check there.
If that doesn't work, I recommend a windows update to service 1. It really helped my stability as far as win2k pro goes.
You may also need a critical update. And I recommend the i.e 5.5 update. Of course, if your not on a high speed connection, settle for Service pack 1.

Processor temp = 45 to 50 C
I thought that would be the problem too but according to AMD the max Die temp is 90 C

When you say that you changed your chipsets you mean that you just replaced your motherboard and used the rest of your existing components right? It may be time to format your hard drive with extreme prejudice and do a full reinstall...but only as a last resort. Did you get the latest drivers for your chipset?
