New Abit KR7A-133(R)

It's just a KR7A with the Via southbridge that supports ATA 133 with and without RAID as usuall. So you have four ATA 133 ports for up to eight ATA 133 drives. Maybe this Via southbridge fixes that PCI bug, but it's not really that serious of a bug.

I honestly can't figure out what you're asking. But I will answer the best I can.

The KR7A has the Via VT8233 Southbridge and the KR7A-133 has the Via VT8233A Southbridge. The 8233A supports ATA 133 whereas the 8233 supports ATA 100.

I haven't posted it just yet

The only difference I can see between the KR7A-RAID and the KR7A-133-RAID is the southbridge...(VT8233 for KR7A-RAID and VT8233A for KR7A-133-RAID)

Atleast we have a cheaper mobo without RAID who don't need it (like me) and it comes with ATA133. Sweet.

What I meant was that the KR7A IDE 3 and 4 use ATA133 ,so now IDE 1 and 2 are ATA133 as well,right?

What happened?
X-bit Labs had an article this morning (about a page long) describing the details of the new Abit boards and their estimated release dates. Why did they remove it?

Anyhow, in the article they stated that the KR7A-133(R) could be expected to be released sometime in March. However, HR Computers has an ETA on these boards of late January.

That's a pretty large gap in predictions. Can anyone speculate on this?

I was planning on buying the regular KR7A-RAID this week. Is it worth waiting until, at latest, March for the upgraded version?

Uh... I don't know the answer to that. We can probably expect to be able to buy the board very soon. I don't understand why Abit would put on their mainpage if it was going to come out in march or later.

I emailed newegg yesterday, and they said that they have no predictions on when they will begin carrying the kr7a-133raid. However, it's true that they, along with several other vendors, are now selling the non-raid version. There must be some marketing strategy behind not releasing both boards at the same time.

Does anyone know what problems Via was originally having with their old VT8233 Southbridge that led to this update? Someone said that it wasn't anything major, so maybe it's not worth waiting for the 133raid?

And, what PCI bug is BMGundam referring to? I can't find anything about this anywhere.

The pics on this site show the User's Manual titled as "KR7A-133/KR7A-133RAID" http://www.hexus.net/scoopage.php?review=265

This should be an indication that both boards will be released at about the same time.

It just affects large PCI transfers. Intels i850 and i860 also have some sort of bug similar to the Via one. The difference between Intel's and Via's is Intel listed it under their erratum sheet on their web site and Via refused to even it acknowledge it existed untill recently. The Via bug can be fixed with a PCI Latency patch. It doesn't really seem like it's a "critical" patch to have, unless you use raid and need the extra bandwith.
