Gainward gf2 Ti450 vs. Ti500XP
Okay. You all have convinced me to get a Gainward Gf2 TI card. My only question is, on a relatively tight budget, is the difference noticeable between the Gainward Gf2 Ti450 4.5ns and the Gainward Gf2 Ti500XP 4ns? The 500XP is about $30 more on Newegg and incudes VIVO, which I probably WON'T use. If all I'm buying with the 500XP over the Ti450 is the VIVO, then I can't really justify spending the extra $$ on something I won't be using.
I am looking to purchase TODAY, so any response is appreciated!
I will be upgrading my mobo (Abit A7M or Asus KG7R), CPU (1+GHz), and memory (128 or 256), so this card should fit okay.

Great White Shark
The difference besdies the VIVO is that it has faster RAM(4ns vs. 4.5 ns). That means you can overclock it much higher than normal speeds which is a very good thing

Yeah all the lower RAM ns means is that you can OC it at much higher frequencys and getting it to run stable without additional cooling other then the stock cooling that comes with the card. Since your probably not going to use the VIVO (hardly anyone does its just a feature that people want nowadays to judge a card...mainly the more features we see the better we rate a card no matter what its stupid I know) you should save the $30 and just buy the Gainward GF2 Ti450...but on the other hand if you want to nail Ti500 speeds without much stress or additional cooling then its definitally worth the extra $30 to get the Ti500XP.

I have the ti 450 and i can tell you i oc'd it to 533 without any problems so if overclocking is what you worried about i don't think it matters that much, on that note don't mess with the core!!! What kind of sound card do you have? The reason i ask is that this card hated my two turtle beach vortex cards, the sytem was very unstable. I was only able to fix the stability issues by using a vortex 1 (8810). The montego and montego2 8820b and 8830) had some compatibility problems, so much so that both would lock the comp during installation of the drivers for each.

iyox - my sound card is an ancient AWE64. I'm not too worried about it...yet.
I just got done ordering a new mobo outfit: Abit KR7A-RAID w/ Athlon 1133MHz and 256MB PC2100. A heck of an upgrade at a reasonable price. Now, to offset "splurging" for the KR7A, I might be leaning more towards the less expensive Ti450...unless I hear other opinions...

Yeah. nothin wrong with the ti450.
Its 4.5ns ram is still faster than most at 5ns.
I have MSI GF2 Pro with 5ns EliteMT ram which can be clocked to 500 clean and around 520 Max with a little artifacting(ram sinks a must at these speeds). And this is one of the fastest 5ns Pro's.
The gainward ti 500XP is only the fastest GF2 on the planet.Few Ultra's can touch it.
Toms hardware had their sample at 315/570 at which it out paced a GF3 ti200 in Q3 HI 1600x1200-32 by 76-73 fps.

While your at it you should head over to an online outlet and buy a $12 blorb which should suit you fine for your OCing needs. You most likely wont need it but just incase your worried about the heat and messing up your Ti200 when you OC it to Ti500 speeds then I would definitally buy it.

LOL Snoop. Id swear you never read these posts before replying.
No'ones buying a GF3.
Good point on the blorb though.
Its essential for stable overclocking, but id get the Crystal orb to save an hour sanding and lapping.
The crystal orb has a milled copper base, while the Blorb is solid cast alloy and ussually ends up with a big hole in its base due shrinkage as the alloy cools afetr casting.
[note to myself]: primary mission in life.

My Geforce2 Ti500 doesn't even hit 300mhz core even with an 80mm fan blowing over it.
Nevertheless, it still overclocks very nicely.

Baaahhh! SOB!!! Gainward why the hell do they confuse the names with the GF3 line? Makes no sense the whole Ti500 thing when the GF3 has a Ti500 aswell.
Ohh well thanks for the clear up Jagojago I just couldn't catch on.
Anyways I would still do what I said and put in $40 more for a GF3 Ti200 its well worth the money or the wait to get the money. I think its a waste of time and money to be getting a GF2 when something else is currently out there for almost the same price.
Then again its not Snoop Doggy Doggs moneyz so I will shuts up now
