2k and 98 boxes can see each other, but thats all
I am running them through a router. I can ing each one just fine. When I go to Network neighborhood on either one it askes for a passwoed. I have 2 passwords I use. Neither one works. On the 98 box when I DC on COPMPUER(my 2Ks name) is says the resource is \\COMPUTER\IPC$ and askes for a password. None work. On the 2K box it askes for a username and a password when trying to access te 98 box. ***? I have file and print sharing enabled and have all the drives shared. I can ping, and they see each other, so I am missing something here. Both are on Workgroup and Client for Microsoft Networks.

You have to go to my computer>manage>users and groups and add the user name passowrd of the 98 Box (the user name and password used to get into windows). After that it should work perfectly.

I am not too concerned if the 98 can get into the 2K box. I need it the other way around. When I try to access the 98 box, I get the computer icon with the name, I DC that and get the shared folder icon with the computer name, I DC that and get the Username and password box. I enter the Username and password that I have when I logon to the 98 box and it says NO! I tried ever other username and password combo that i have and still no go.

I've never encountered that problem before, the only remotely similar problem I encountered like it was when I installed Norton Internet Security on the 98 box (wifes computer) and didn't allow my computers IP access. I could see it but couldn't access it.

The password that the 98 box is asking for is the password you set when you set the share on that drive or directory.
Unless there is a really a need for the security, I just leave the password blank, so no password is required.

DOH! I knew I forgot something. Thanks. I yanked the PW on the 98 box and all is well.
