Post User Guide: Clean Your Windows.

I have a question regaring the following advice that is posted on this website from the User Guide: Clean Up Your Windows section as follows:

"Open up Windows Explorer, take a peek in your C: drive's root folder, and look for a pair of files called Autoexec.bat and Config.sys. Right-click on those puppies, select Rename from the context menu, and slap a dummy file extension on them, rendering them useless to Windows. For example, we chose a new name for our Autoexec.bat file that's both functional and satisfying: "Autoexec.bat.biteme." Our Config.sys file's new moniker is too offensive to print on a friendly and respectable web site."

Firstly, after folloing the above advice I cannot find a file named "Autoexec.bat, but I do have some files called "Autoexec.bak, Autoexec.nu4, Autoexec" but no "Auotoexec.bat". Which one is the correct file to rename?

Secondly, whenever I rename my "Config.Sys" file and restart my computer it just makes a brand new seperate "Config.sys" file and keeps the one I renamed also, any ideas what this is all about and how to stop it, if I need to that is?

Finally aside form the advie in the guide on this website can anybody give me nay more advie on how to improve the performance of my PC? I kinda newe to computers so my knowledge is limited
