Can anyone recommend a good Dreamweaver3 book for a total beginner? I want to develope a website, but the book that came with my software is a mess.
Also, any advice on HTML guides?

And one other thing: is there a better forum to post this kind of question?

    This forum is the one!

As for books I can't help you much, but check out these internet.com sites:

You should also take a look at the third and the last of the 15 channels on the www.internet.com first page. Lots of good resources!

    Try these:

-Dreamweaver 3 for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickStart Guide

    and

    -Dreamweaver 3 Hands-on-Training

Check the web too, like Kid A said. Lots of FREE info!

Don't tell anyone but I actually use FrontPage 2000 to develope my web pages. I like the user interface, plus front page extenstions allow the easy use of Web Folders. Expecially if you develope from 2 different locations, the web folders allow you to access the latest state of your files on the web server. You don't have to use the lame front page themes. I also enjoy the fact that Front Page follows the same layout as all of the other Microsoft Development programs. There is a tab that lets you see all of the html, incase FP does something you don't like you can edit it, or you can tamper with the HTML to learn what different tags do. Also try webmonkey.com for the basic and advanced HTML ASP CGI and JAVA info.

    Hope this helps,

I'm not a GUI web editor fan, but as far as learning the HTML behind the curtian, check out any of the O'Rielly or Wrox HTML books.

hmmm books. If you need help on using the actual editor then thats good. To learn the actual HTML you can just look at the code from other websites.

I'd personally suggest you learn html by hand first before you move into dreamweaver. It'll slow you down on the amount of crap you make. No offense, but that's what it'll probably be and I was no exception when I first started html. Oh, the horrors I made.... It was awful... Just awful. I'll have to embarass myself sometime and show you all where it's still located. The single BIGGEST BIGGEST BIGGEST thing you can do that will help you out no matter how crappy or good you are is to think through where you want everything placed. Draw on a sheet of paper how the site will look, where the navigation will be and how it will flow. You'll receive at least some respect from ppl if you the site's layout is logical even with tons of blinking text and a hot pink background with purple text. Here is a link on what lots of beginners do wrong, hopefully you will stay away from this stuff as well. http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/

I would definately join the leagues of people suggesting that you learn the HTML first, and then move into DreamWeaver. I'm ashamed of my first site, which I made in Netscape Composer. I sometimes go to look at it just to have a laugh. Or to motivate me to get better...
