Angry Athlon XP freezes at low temp

    Hey guys,

My Athlon XP 1800/K7s5a freezes during random tasks when between 41 and 45 degrees. They seems like low temps to be freezing at.

1.) Do I need better case cooling? (I have 2 exhaust near top in back, 1 intake on bottom front.) or a better heat sink? (I got the 6035d with the loud as hell delta fan) Or is it possible something ELSE is over heating? Nothing seems hot to the touch inside.

2.) -OR- could something else be causing this? I am fairly certain all my drivers are updated.

3.) If I need better cooling please recommend the best quietest solutions, this machine is in my recording studio (hence the need for stability )

    Thanks guys!
    -Kevin

with temps like that, i highly doubt that it's a heat thing....i'm a little stumped as to what it might be though...did you just build it, or has it just started doing this?

No, it't not heat, unless your temperature monitor is misbehaving.

What exactly is your system doing?

I just had the system built by a computer shop.

The whole computer freezes mainly while running intensive applications like Adobe Premier and CoolEdit Pro. However It has also done it while running nothing but ICQ and AIM. One other thing - in CoolEdit Pro I notice some strange graphical artifacts. I also just remembered the people in the computer shop told me that my old 32MB video card might cause problems because the processor will just be too quick for it, though they never indicated it would freeze the system.

    Could that be the problem?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    P.S. I'm not over clocking and I have a 300w PSU.

I'd say you most likely have a driver problem. Perhaps your motherboard drivers but it could be just about anything.
