Post Final Fantasy IX

I hope Squaresoft continues the tradition that they started with Final Fantasy VII.

I've seen the PSX version of FF9 that came out in the states about 3 weeks ago. I love the old school RPG's. EXCELLENT!

FF7 raised the bar. FF8 proved the PSX could be eye-candy. FF9 seems to have merged the two. Now release it for the PC!

Actually, the original SquareSoft great was Final Fantasy 3 for the SNES. That is probably my favorite RPG to date. FF 7 was pretty dang good also. Cant wait to see the PS2 Final Fantasy.

I'm torn between 4,5, and 6 myself. From what I've played so far FF9 is shaping up to be really good. I think it has some enhancements coded specifically for the PS2 though. It improves way more than most other games.

For those willing to go to semi-legal means, I've found emulators to be invaluable.

One of the best realms of emulation are the translator groups. I especially like DeJap:

These guys have a bunch of translation projects working, and a good SNES emulator (such as ZSNES) is able to run the ROM's with the patch.

The FF fans were the luckiest by far. Translation projects are no easy endeavor, with staffs of translators and assembly code hackers. FF2j and FF3j (for the NES), and FF5j (SNES, before it was released in the States as part of the FF Anthology) were translated sometime ago. IMHO, the translation of FF5 by the ROM hackers was better than Squaresoft's!

I agree. The translation of FF4 was way better than FF2us. When I first played the jp version, I was suprised by the amount of cool stuff they took out in the US release.
