monitor refresh/adapter question

I just switched my monitor refresh rates in w2k from 60 to 76 and it looked fine. When I restarted I got a corrupted pic at about 65-80% along the "progress" bar on the startup screen. I think it continued to load, but all I could see was the top half of the screen and a bunch of red and white vertical bars.

After a bunch of swearing and uninstalling/reinstalling different versions of the drivers in safe mode, I am back up.

My question is why would the settings work when I hit "apply" but then corrupt the startup?

At default settings the refresh rate in W2k doesn't actually apply until after you restart your comp.

Oh ok, that must be it....I sure was mad!

who would have thought that a radeon 32 ddr/sun (sony trinitron) 21" monitor combo couldn't do 76hz:rolleyes:

I went through the same thing when I changed my monitor and still had the old drivers from the previous one.
