Sound Cards and High FSBs?
OK guys I am trying to do as much research into upgrading my current system enough so that I have enough parts for two fairly decent PCs (The final upgraded one for games being the one in question here, with the leftover parts to use as a server/occassional gaming machine) and have the upgrade plan almost figured out... all but in the sound department.
My Current PC is the one in the sig below... and I also have an AMD Athlon 1.4GHz T-Bird leftover from the CPU upgrade to the XP 1800+
I am aiming to have the computer running at 200FSB (400DDR)
My plan is to run the USB modem off of the 1.4GHz server so there will be no USB devices to worry about restricting the FSB of the system... so the only 2 cards I will have in the computer will be the Graphics card and 1 PCI Ethernet card.
The parts I am looking to upgrade to are:
Epox 8K3A+
1x 256MB Samsung Origional PC2700
1x Maxtor ATA133 80 Gb 7,200 RPM (Putting all SCSI in the server)
1x UDMA33 CD/DVD
Now I know it will be asking a lot to hit 200FSB but that's my aim... so I need to know what sound cards are capable of running at such a high FSB ... or would the onboard sound be the safest bet?
Oh and does anyone know how high an FSB the PCI network cards can handle as this would be the only way for this computer to have internet access.
Any light any of you can throw on this subject would be greatly appreciated and I appologise for such a long post.

Re: Sound Cards and High FSBs?
I'm not up on the PCI dividers of that board at 200fsb....how high will the PCI bus be running at that speed? 50mhz? I dont think any PCI component will be able to handle than speed.
If you have a 1/5 PCI divider FYI, i'm running 40mhz PCI system right now, and my SBLive never causes the system to hang.

I just saw this at vr-zone on their review of the board about the divider when they had the board at 200MHz (400DDR)
"However, after confirmation with the EPoX's BIOS engineer, they reveal that this board can indeed support 1/5 PCI divider and 1/2.5 AGP divider when FSB is over 166Mhz so the actual speed of the PCI and AGP should be 40Mhz and 80Mhz respectively."
So the SBLive!5.1 I have just now will saffice?
sweet as biscuits
Oh and i heard the D-Link DFE-530TX+ has been running at 180MHz and above when i peeped at the Network section... so that's me all set... unless anyone has a better suggestion
Oh and thanks for your help blppt

Well, just FYI, different mobos can affect high PCI stability....
For example, my old Via Apollo 133 would not ever work at 40MHZ PCI with a SBLive; i kept getting EMU10K1 errors. Just a word of warning. I'm using a P3 and 815EP right now, so obviously this is a different platform that yours.
