    Arrow Liss'n up, fellerz!

This has been brought to my attention from Sergeant !shira!, as seen here and a recent PM from him (which will not be disclosed).

Dustycaseitis. It's ridden in everyone's rig. Everyone tries to keep it out with filters and other tricks, but it still gets in. After a period of time, temperatures increase and soon you'll probably wonder why your rig is a few degrees higher than normal.

It's a disease: It slowly chokes the life out of your parts and eventually kills them, especially parts that require fans. Examples are CPU fans, Northbridge fans and Video cards. They are not limited to said parts, however. It could be anything.

So, with the help of !shira!, I've sorta "created" Case Cleanout day. At the 18th of every month (or whatever day in that week feels good for you), everyone in the Guild (and not) is encouraged* to clean out their cases of dust bunnies. It only takes about 1-2 hours for a total cleanout, and it can help your temperatures - I just cleaned mine out and my CPU temps dropped from 19C to 18C Idle

    You're fans will thank you!

    * = It's "Encouraged" since nobody is forced to. Think Earth Day

This reminds me of my old HP Pavilion that I had to pull apart a week or two ago. I had to put a respirator on that I had for spraying paint to clean that thing out!

Finally, a use for the calendar feature! Now all we gotta do is have someone put it up.

1-2 hours?! Man you're nuts... I use a can of air (~$3-$4, Staples) to spray out the entire case/in between components and I'm done in 1-2 minutes.

I'm still saving up to build a new rig... While everyone else has already joined the darkside.

I was just kidding...though my case is quite dustfree. I keep the side and top panel off on my SX1240(full tower with lots of air flow)and I only have 1 "actual case fan" which blows on my HDD. The other fan I have is a 1ft x 1ft fan blowing directly into the case.

    The reasons I do this:
    1. Cheap- the 1ft x 1ft fan I bought from Wal-Mart was $6.
    2. Effective- Keeps my case temps are a nice 22C.
    3. The dust buildup will not be trapped in the case with the side panel off.
    4. Doesn't suck out PSU power.
    5. Without all of those fan cables, my case is just a tad more organized.

I actually took it apart and dusted off every individual part with a paintbrush. It's a LOT more clean now

I've got one for my 80mm intake, but not for my 120mm (getting one next week along with a slower fan and Plexiglass Grill). Just about all of it was around the 120mm fan, for obvious reasons

Besides, I haven't cleaned her out since last July, when I built her

plus the filters probably have to be cleaned out more often than an unfiltered case
