Desert Combat Woes
OK, so I install this new desert combat patch. They've got all these new vehicles, maps, weapons, classes, etc. So far, it all looks very cool. Then I start to actually play the game, and what do I notice? All the maps are polluted with plane campers! I thought BF1942 was bad for plane campers, but DC takes it to a whole new level. I just finished a game on Gazala, and there was literally less than 2 or 3 people actually trying to cap flags at any given time. This is on a 32 player map. I mean who can blame them really? The new vehicles are a hell of a lot of lot of fun when you can actually use them. That huge new bomber that the allies have is very cool indeed, but is it actually all that useful? So on the surface, DC appears to be very cool, but when you go to play it, it turns out to be not really that much fun for me. The great thing about BF1942 was that it had the perfect mix of vehicles, to keep the pace going, and to still concentrate on the objective of capturing flags. That's what made it so much fun. On the other hand, DC has so many toys, that it's impossible to pull yourself away from the toys and actually try and win the game. Thus the game deteriorates into big old camping trip. And of course you have the anti-campers on the other team, who are again not trying to cap flags, but kill the campers in the enemy base.
So those are my thoughts and analysis on DC 0.3.
