My vision is improving!
my winchester is a newcastle accroding to cpu-z
People told me I had a winchester based on the stepping. Well guess what:
So anyway it was easier than I thought to assemble the mobo and insert the winchester(ha!) I used the same hdd without reinstalling anything and it went fine. Yes you guys are dying to know the overclock, well heres it: 2.6GHz at 1.5(1.52v overvolt) with stock heatsink/fan! However it just hits a wall right there. I cant even load windows at 2.7GHz and 1.6v and at 2.64GHz ill get into windows but itll crash if I load anything. Raising the volts to 1.55 did not help. Seems like anything over 1.5x volts does nothing further. I checked CPU-z(June edition) and it reports my cpu as a newcastle 130nm! GRRR this makes me mad! I was like ok so it overclocks as good as my 3200+ s754 newcastle. I insert my best stick in and it wont get to windows at 240fsb. 235 crashes, 230 is fine. This is disturbing since I could do 250fsb on my 2800+ and 240 on my 3200+ wow this 3000+ newcastle's ondie controller really sucks! I inserted another stick and it wont even post in dual channel! removed one stick, set fsb to 200, t-2 command rate, put the other stick in again and no post! All this for nothing and I end up with a s939(s754 in disguise) newcastle that overclocks no better than my 3200+ either. The overclock is not too shabby but I wanted a dual channel winchester, not a single channel newcastle!!!!!!!!!!
I am happy with my overclock but I wanted a winchester with dual channel support! Not bad for a newcastle though! That newcastle arent doing 3GHz. Well it has come to my attention that maybe my sticks arent compatable in dual channel? Both are corsair value but were purchased at different times so the chips themselves could be different brands which corsair buys cheaply for value ram. One stick is rated cas3 the other 2.5 but both do 230fsb 2.5 to my knowlege. Tried the stronger stick at ras-cas2 185fsb, got to windows than crashed. wow. I was thinking of TCCD but it would be miralicious to hit 290fsb and the 166 divider puts the ram at only 236, meh! My better option is get crucial(value) and its almost certain ill hit 200fsb(133 divider) at ras-cas2 which would be 99% as good as TCCD run at 166 divider cause TCCD does not have ras-cas2 timings at higher fsb. If I get lucky, ill do 150 divider and run the crucial at 216MHz but I may need matching sticks for dual channel so ill need to buy new or buy from someone that guarantees dual channel
