I just recently discovered that running all your fans @ full speed isn't necessarily a good idea. For example, I was fooling around my case the other day and decided to bump one of the fans from 12V to 7V... and voila, my CPU temp dropped 3 degrees. On the negative side, my mobo temp rose 6 degrees. When I turned the fan off completely my cpu temp rose 6 degrees from normal and the mobo temp rose 9 from normal. Just goes to show that more air doesn't necessarily mean better. Design and airflow are much more important than quantity.
I really need to finish my baybus setup so that I can fool around with the speeds to find what is optimal.
Then I'll get to work on some of the stuff I saw in your article Colt. Wow, at first I couldn't see where you were going, but as you continued it all started to fall together. I can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done. You've totally inspired me to take that extra step beyond just cutting some holes for fans. I just hope what I end up with turns out a quarter as good as the other case you showed.
Oh, and one question. Are those zip-ties strong enough to keep that radiator in place? Seems like it might be kind of flimsy? I'm not questioning your choice, just asking for explanation. Would there be any chance of the plastic zip ties contorting or stretching? Expansion and contraction of the metal radiator when it gets hotter and colder? Or would the radiator come loose if the case was jostled sufficiently?
