Alrighty, Done with the mod, It will impress you guys. Anyway fired it up Saturday, Have some interesting findings to report.
First Specs
Abit KT7a
256MB PC160 OCz Ram 2-2-2
Two 20G Maxtor HD running RAID 0
Okay enough Specs.
Popped in the 1G chip first, Fired right up, Set up HDs, Installed windows without a hitch.
Cool Right, Wrong. Took out chip, unlocked bridges put it in, Set it to 8x133. No Boot, tryed everything, no boot, tried four different pencils, all different bios settings, Nothing. S**T.
So erased pencil put in chip, fired up no problem, tryed raising fsb, no boot, go fiqure. So left the comp on and layed down to contimplate the situation. Go back and I do not hear the high whirl of the fob, damn, fryed t-bird, thought to myself. Looked at temp guages, idling at 38C, with fob Idled at 30C, not to bad considering no fan, just heatsink. So I said to myself time to see if a heatsink could handle some stress. Fired a few benchmarks at it, played Rogue Spear for an hour, never rose past 48C, I was impressed.
So I killed my 120MM exhaust temp rose 3C killed 120MM intake, temp rose to 54C and comp locked. Rebooted, put intake full throttle and exhaust 3/4 throttle, temps went the same no problems.
Lesson in this fan thing, its all in the placement and what is in the way, not how many you have. The fans push about 96CFM
So got another fan on heatsink, poped in the 1.2G AXIA, Fired her up at 10.5x133. Ran stable no problems at 1400MHz. Did not want to go higher, saving that chip for water cooled pelts, made sure it was not motherboard.
Today went out and bought tracer repair pen, Silver Based. Took 1200 grit sandpaper and lightly roughed up the L1 Bridges of the 1G AXIA, put the tracer stuff on. Set bios at 9.5*133. Boom fired it up, boots right into windows, been stable for 4 Hours now at 1266MHz, Ya baby. Lesson here, four pencils no game, real metal and a slight buff, works like a charm.
Will be overclocking the 1G for laughs while building water system. This should be interesting. Thanks AMD for the fun.
