Building a Better Backbone - We can DO it
. . . That users like you and me can actually take full advantage of.
What do you guys say, can it be done? Can we team up, and build a better backbone? By better, of course, I mean more accessible. If it is possible to construct a network that reaches enough major cities, we will be allowed, free of charge, to utilize the 5 major backbones currently in existence. This, of course, means that we have to comply with the "hot potato" data passing rules of the major players. We pass data to them right away, and they pass data to us right away.
Here's how it will work. We'll link 10Gbps fiber from city to city around the world, and we'll have nasty net access. We'll be our own ISP, rather than outsourcing, and we'll charge from $10 to %30 bucks a month. Access will be totally unlimited, but it will be segmented, so that 1 person does not kill all of the bandwidth with a 10 hour bandwidth test. That'd just be wrong.
We could serve up 10Mbit as the $10, 100 Mbit as the $20, and 1Gbit as the $30. Hosting and backup options would be more, but then again, no one will need hosting options. No Verizon s***, selling the bandwidth, and blocking port 80 to requests . . . All open internet.
Whadda you guys think? Non-profit organization? Could it fly? I think so.
Just remember, this is MY idea. I said it here first.
Peace,
Chris
